Acme Superstore Walking Dead Submission

Completed my submission for Acme Superstore's upcoming "Walking Dead" show opening this weekend (10/5). As I finished this and was about to transfer the files to a flash drive I ended up having some issues with my computer, which ended up causing me to spend time after completing this piece to have to reinstall the operating system. Luckily I didn't have to restore to a previous version, where this file might have been lost (I have back up, but my problems started RIGHT after getting done, so who knows if I was backed up in time or not?), but I was contemplating that maybe using real ink wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

Kimme and Cassius

A piece done for a friend's Facebook profile. Incorporated her fondness of leopard print, her cat, Cassius, and her skills in creating Henna tattoos.

Gamma Bombshell

Acme's latest show, "Infinity Art Event," is about the latest event in Marvel comics, and involves Thanos and all things Avengers- thus I have elected to draw one of my favorite characters, She-Hulk! Again, this will be a giclée print of a certain number- though I haven't quite settled on that as of yet. The piece will be available for purchase at Acme and eventually, I'll make it available online at some point.

Curiosity.

A design for a T-shirt on RedBubble. "Curiosity killed the cat" - the basic idea behind this rendering.

Sweet Nothings.

Again, inspired from a suggested topic, whisper, from Illustration Friday's site. I was able to play around with more modelling with this piece using gradients and the lasso tool in Photoshop.

Drone Attack!

So, this week, I took Illustration Friday's project "wheel" and did some cyberpunk art reminiscent of my work with Iron Crown Enterprises, authors of the RPG Cyberspace. I was fortunate enough to get to do the intro art for each chapter of some of their adventure modules. Of course, I was rendering in ink and cutting actual half-tone adhesives to get a certain look- so much easier with Photoshop these days- though I went for a straight black and white look sans half-tone here. I added the drone halfway through the rendering to add a sense of menace to the piece- the cyberpunk genre being what it is, after all.

I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream.

Inspired by Harlan Ellison's I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, I had initially planned to do a series of drawings based upon my reading of this book quite a few years ago, but had abandoned the project after finishing one of the drawings and reaching the pencil stage for another. Currently I am scanning some of my older works and decided that I would complete the "bird-machine" piece digitally. I kept the drawing as a black and white piece in the spirit of the original intent for these drawings. I'm considering picking this story up again and seeing what insight I could gain for these pieces on reflection, and perhaps let the story inspire more art.

Monster

A somewhat atypical piece, this was done for a client in the educational market. Fun was had rendering this whimsical piece!

Angel of the Improbable

Again, I got the topic from Illustration Friday, a site where they post a new topic- well, every Friday. This week was "wings." I've done some pin-up art illustrating cybernetic angels, which I had considered, but really I'm seeking to show a broad range of topics in my illustration with my pursuing subject matter from this site, so I explored some ideas utilizing this imagery to expound upon the idea of atheism. I have an interest in the arguments concerning religion, belief, reason, etc. and had wanted to address this in my art at some point. I had also seen some atheist T-shirts that struck me as uninspired graphically, and had set about working on an illustration (which I'm still working on) that would address atheism in a more visual and challenging way, rather than some blanket statement on the shirt. This could end up on a shirt for that purpose- I set about creating this using a dot pattern to show a gradient that hopefully will print better on a shirt than I think a straight up gradient will do (as has been my experience with a previous design).

Another Red Bubble T-Shirt Available!

http://www.redbubble.com/people/toxichuk/works/9899700-my-job-went-overseas-and-all-i-got-was-this-lousy-t-shirt?p=t-shirt

Using my On The Fiscal Edge drawing, I created a shirt commenting on the current economic situation many seem to be presented with. I had come up with the statement a while back, but wasn't sure how to address it visually. Just a play on those shirts lamenting the fact that the wearer of said shirt was unable to participate in the destination that someone far more fortunate was able to but thought that they would ease that lack of participation with a shirt promoting that location.

Maybe an overblown examination of the phenomena...

Myth

An illustration for the topic myth presented by the website Illustration Friday. I wanted to express the idea of a myth, rather than focus on specific imagery or culture. (Updated 01/26/2013: I did some tweaking on this image- wasn't happy with some of the lighting effect surrounding the word balloon.)

Starting The Year 2013 With Recent Works

On The Fiscal Edge • media: digital

Lying At The Foot Of The Ocean • media: digital

These pieces are in response to the call out of the website Illustration Friday in which topics are posted for participants to illustrate every week. The first piece is my interpretation on the given theme "edge." The second piece is my take on the theme "ocean."
